Woman, 42, Charged With Fabricating Story About Child In Stolen Vehicle, Granted $5k Bond

A woman has been charged with falsely reporting her car stolen and falsely claiming that a child was inside, according to police. Jessica Denise Williams, a 42-year-old woman, was arrested on Thanksgiving Day on a charge of false alarm or report, as stated in court records. According to Lt. Larry Crowson of the Houston Police Department, the woman contacted them to report her stolen car. However, when the police did not arrive immediately, she called back after an hour and a half.

After consulting with her family members, it was revealed that the individual who was thought to be a 14-year-old was, in fact, a 30-year-old who was not present in the vehicle. Crowson reported that this time, she stated that a 14-year-old child had been taken along with the car. The police promptly arrived following the second call.

According to Crowson, the authorities treat reports of kidnappings with utmost seriousness and make sure to allocate the necessary resources for investigation. Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that the supposed 14-year-old victim was actually a 30-year-old individual who was not present in the car.

Crowson explains that HPD is often faced with the challenge of prioritizing calls, especially during holidays when they have limited staff available. bThe department uses a three-tier system to assign officers to handle crimes and respond to calls for service. The top priority is given to life-threatening emergencies, such as an active shooter situation.

When it comes to Priority 2 incidents, we are talking about situations that involve life-threatening emergencies or property crimes that are currently happening. Priority 3 is designated for incidents involving property crimes or life-threatening situations that have already occurred.

According to Crowson, they essentially used her cousin’s name and adjusted her age to 14 years old in order to expedite the search for the car. As of Friday, Williams is still in custody with a $5,000 bond. The court expects her to make an appearance next week.
