According to court documents, a Davenport male, age 21, is charged with murder in connection with the demise of his 7-week-old daughter.
Court documents indicate that shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Devion Woods was placed under a bond at the Scott County Jail, where he was registered. As per arrest affidavits, he is accused of first-degree homicide and child endangerment–death. A 7-week-old infant was reported unresponsive in the 1700 block of Emerald Drive on Monday shortly before 4 p.m., according to affidavits. Davenport Police responded to the location.
According to affidavits, police allege that Woods murdered the infant “with malice aforethought” under “circumstances demonstrating an extreme indifference to human life.” The infant “sustained multiple head injuries that ultimately led to her demise,” according to affidavits.
The infant sustained facial contusions, subdural hemorrhage, acute hemorrhages (bleeding) of the nerve origins of the cervical spinal cord, and healing fractures of multiple bones, according to an autopsy. The term “contusion” refers to an injury in medical parlance. Subdural hemorrhage refers to bleeding occurring in the space bounded by the brain and the cranium.
