Mocobizscene- Authorities in Newark are currently conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in the injury of a teenager.
According to sources, the victim managed to drive his car back to Grand Avenue and sought refuge in a nearby house. Eventually, an ambulance arrived and safely transported him to University Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The Newark Police have not disclosed whether this incident occurred due to an attempted car theft. They have stated that the details surrounding the shooting are still being investigated.
According to long-time residents of the neighborhood, there is a significant problem in the west ward. They claim that young teenagers are being recruited to steal cars, particularly those that are known for being easy targets.
“Our main concern when it comes to the younger generation in this area is the issue of auto theft,” expressed Aldwan Lassiter, the Director of Hubb Arts and Trauma Center. “This is precisely why they have entrusted us with the responsibility of mitigating this problem.”
According to Lassiter, he is acquainted with the 13-year-old who was shot. He reveals that the teenager is one of the local kids he hopes to engage in his city-sponsored organization, aimed at diverting youngsters from criminal activities.
Lassiter expressed concern about the rise in auto theft in every ward, questioning whether it is connected to carjacking incidents. During her investigation, Eyewitness News reporter Toni Yates encountered a woman on Grand Avenue who claimed that her car had been stolen from that very area just last Saturday.
“I was devastated when I stepped out and found the spot empty, with broken glass scattered around. It was clear that my car had been stolen,” she recalled.
