Teenage Boy Revived After Suffering Cardiac Arrest During High School Basketball Game

Mocobizscene- A 15-year-old boy was brought back to life after experiencing cardiac arrest while participating in a high school basketball game in Rochester.

A Monroe High School student experienced a collapse during a basketball game in Rochester Wednesday evening.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., emergency responders were called to John James Audubon School No. 33 in Rochester. The incident occurred during a junior varsity basketball game between Monroe High School and School of the Arts, where a 15-year-old boy suddenly experienced cardiac arrest.

A school safety officer and athletic trainer with the assistance of an AED, successfully revived the boy. He remained responsive as he was transported into the ambulance. All city schools in New York State are required by law to have at least one Automated External Defibrillator (AED) available.

The Rochester City School District has made a concerted effort to ensure that multiple units are available that are regularly checked and updated.

The boy is currently receiving treatment at Strong Memorial Hospital, and we will keep you updated on his condition as more information becomes available.
