Overnight shooting at Checkers in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.  – Police in Huntsville say that a man was shot at during a home break-in early on Sunday morning. His wounds were not life-threatening, so he left the scene.

HPD officers said they were called to a home on Hewitt Street shortly before 1:20 a.m. for a burglary call. Officers were subsequently summoned to Checkers, 4000 University Drive, for a report of a gunshot victim.

Troy Shawntell Fletcher, 42, was burglarizing the house when he was shot, according to investigators. According to authorities, he was charged with domestic violence-burglary because of his relationship with the burglary victim.

When he is released from the hospital, he will be put into the Madison County Jail.

According to Huntsville Police, this was an isolated incident.
