A man from Madison County sets barn ablaze

On July 11, a Madison County man was charged with felony second-degree arson after setting fire to a barn.

According to the probable cause statement, on July 11, a Madison Sheriff’s Office detective arrived at the location of a burned-out barn and discovered many burn points that seemed to have been purposefully caused by a torch. The burn sites were 5-6 feet high and within a foot of the ground, according to him.

Tyrell Todd Fisher, 30, was seen in video footage from various security cameras on the property strolling to the back of the barn with a blue propane torch.

Fisher is seen in the footage bringing a white five-gallon bucket from a shop on the property to the barn. Fisher walks away from the barn, saying, “The barns are on fire.” Someone yells at Fisher, who is not visible on the surveillance video, requesting assistance in obtaining the hose to put out the fire. Fisher responds by demanding the keys to his truck.

Police discovered the two shirts Fisher wore in the videos while conducting a search warrant on the home. They also discovered a blue propane torch placed behind a metal bucket in an adjacent corral feeding trough.

Fisher refused multiple orders from law police to leave the residence, but eventually left voluntarily. He denied any culpability, claiming he was simply burning weeds surrounding the barn. The detective on the case stated that he spotted no weeds around the barn and that the fire started straight on the wood sliding regions.

Fisher is considered to be innocent until proven guilty. If convicted, he may face up to 15 years in prison and/or a $75,000 fine.
