A suspect has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in Birmingham on August 2.

The Birmingham Police Department has arrested Maurio Sanders Jr. in connection with an armed robbery. The event was held on August 2, 2023. On the 5100 block of Messer Airport Highway, an adult woman was threatened with a firearm.

Sanders Jr.’s images were leaked to the media on August 9, 2023. These were also shared on the social media sites of the Birmingham Police Department to aid in his identification. On the same day, Sanders Jr. surrendered to police at the department’s headquarters.

Sanders Jr. was brought to Birmingham City Jail after surrendering. He was detained for 48 hours to allow for further investigation. Birmingham Police Detectives then referred the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

After reviewing the case details, a warrant for Robbery 1st Degree (Gun) was issued for Sanders Jr. Sanders Jr. is now being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.

The Birmingham Police Department has expressed gratitude to the media and social media users for their assistance in publishing the suspect’s images, which aided in the investigation.
