Mocobizscene- A woman was taken into custody and two detainees were charged again when they made an attempt to smuggle drugs into the Orleans Justice Center on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
An investigation was initiated by the leaders of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office on November 29, 2023. It was prompted by Jada Jefferson’s alleged entry into the Orleans Justice Center with a package containing a pair of white tennis shoes. Jefferson claimed that the package was intended for detainee Reishad Womack.
According to investigators, Jefferson had been granted permission to visit a disabled inmate who needed a special shoe for their foot condition. However, officers became suspicious when she arrived to deliver the shoes.
OPSO officers and detectives from the Investigative Services Bureau made a remarkable discovery during their operation. They uncovered three vacuum-sealed packages of compressed tobacco and 273 dosage units of suboxone sublingual film concealed within the soles of the shoes.
Investigators claim that Jefferson worked in collaboration with detainee Jerome Enclade to illicitly smuggle contraband items into the jail.
Jefferson got arrested and is now facing charges for introducing contraband into a penal facility, possessing drugs with the intention to distribute, engaging in criminal conspiracy, and possessing or distributing a prescription drug without proper authorization.
Womack and Enclade will also be facing additional charges in connection with the incident. Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson praised the unwavering dedication and exceptional investigative skills of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office team, as evidenced by these arrests.
