Son of Israeli diplomat accused of hitting Sunny Isles cop with car – but he may avoid prosecution

Mocobizscene- Avraham Gil, a 19-year-old individual, seemed to be shedding tears in his mug shot taken in Miami-Dade County. The local authorities in Sunny Isles Beach have charged him with intentionally running over one of their officers using his motorcycle.

However, he might be able to avoid two felony charges due to his father’s influence.

Just after 3:30 Saturday afternoon, Gil, from Aventura, collided with a police lieutenant who was conducting a traffic stop on Collins Avenue, near 174th Street, according to police.

According to the arrest report, the officer approached the vehicle he had pulled over when Gil suddenly appeared on his motorcycle, skillfully navigating through the traffic. The officer gestured at Gil and shouted for him to stop, but Gil disregarded the command and continued riding towards the lieutenant, deliberately running him over.

According to the report, the officer sustained a severe injury to his left leg and took immediate action by apprehending Gil and bringing him down to the ground. Gil was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.

But those charges may not hold up because Avraham Gil is the son of Eli Gil, a diplomat at the Israeli consulate in Miami.

The U.S. Department of State states that family members who are part of the household of diplomatic agents are entitled to the same privileges and immunities as the sponsoring diplomatic agents.

In court, Gil’s attorneys made the argument that this applies to him.

According to legal analyst David Weinstein, this immunity privilege may not apply to all categories of diplomatic workers and their families.

According to Weinstein, diplomatic immunity is not granted to individuals who are referred to as consular officials. This designation is reserved for individuals who are not the highest-ranking diplomatic representatives of a foreign country in the United States. Therefore, there is a clear distinction between these two categories.
