NYC middle schoolers are bullied and attacked because they’re immigrants

Mocobizscene- According to a local media source, several middle school pupils in New York say they are the targets of physical attacks and bullying just because they are immigrants.

In an interview with CBS New York, 13-year-old Odilys Torres of J.H.S. 226 in the Queens borough claimed that because she and her family moved to the city from Venezuela, other kids had bullied and struck her on a school bus.

She claimed in Spanish, as reported by CBS New York, “They did tell me to get out of this country and leave this bus.” “They grabbed my hair, they punched me in the head, they kicked me in the stomach.”

Following multiple complaints by Alejandra Amaja, the mother of Odilys Torres, to the school and local police, the pupils were suspended.

In a statement, New York City Public Schools stated that the district’s top goal is the “safety and well-being” of every kid.

“As soon as the school was made aware of the occurrence, it acted, conducting an inquiry and making sure that children had access to in-school support, among other required and appropriate actions. According to CBS New York, the district stated, “We take every report of bullying extremely seriously. Bullying has absolutely no place in our school communities.”

But according to Amaja, other school-affiliated migrant families who are also lodging in a nearby shelter have experienced abuse and harassment on par with their own.

“I want you to leave this nation. Abrue Mendez Omanlis, a middle school student, reportedly stated, “You don’t know how to speak English,” according to CBS New York. She continued by saying that because she came from a Venezuelan immigrant household, she was beaten by some girls.
