Mocobizscene-A 33-year-old man from Richmond was apprehended by FBI and SWAT agents in Newark, New Jersey this week. He is currently awaiting extradition to Henrico, where he will be charged with second-degree murder and other offenses related to the shooting death of a 34-year-old woman from Henrico on January 1st, as well as the shooting of another woman.
On January 8, Rajahn Altariq Heath was apprehended by the FBI Newark’s Violent Crimes Task Force and SWAT agents. Henrico Police had identified him as a suspect in the tragic killing of Shante M. Jones, a 34-year-old woman who was discovered deceased in an apartment at Montbrook Lane in the Overlook at Brook Run apartment complex, located just off Brook Road in Lakeside. Additionally, he was also implicated in the shooting of another woman in the same apartment.
Heath appeared in court on January 9 in Essex County, New Jersey, where he was arraigned. He is currently being held on an Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution warrant and is awaiting extradition to Henrico.
Heath is not only charged with murder but also faces additional charges including two counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony, malicious wounding, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Henrico Police spokesperson Lt. Amy Kelley expressed gratitude for the help of the FBI Newark and FBI Richmond’s Central Virginia Violent Crimes Task Force in locating and apprehending Mr. Heath. Lt. Kelley emphasized the importance of cooperation between local and state agencies in ensuring public safety.
