Local Alert: NOPD Investigating Eighth District Canal Street Homicide

An investigation is underway by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) into a homicide that transpired in the Eighth District on November 22, 2023. One individual was fatally injured in the 800 block of Canal Street where the incident occurred. At 7:58 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers were dispatched to a complaint regarding a victim who had been shot.

At the site, officers discovered an adult male with gunshot wounds. The individual was promptly transported to a nearby medical facility by Emergency Medical Services. In spite of subsequent medical endeavors, the man was pronounced dead.

At this time, the NOPD is collecting information and evidence in an effort to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators. Additionally, they are investigating potential motives for the offense. At this time, no additional information has been disclosed to the public.

Following an autopsy, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased and ascertain the cause of death. Informing the family of the deceased will occur. Anyone with information regarding the incident is strongly encouraged to contact their Homicide Section detectives or Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans in an anonymous manner, per the NOPD.
