On a bustling Saturday night (Oct. 28) in New Orleans, a shooting occurred just one block away from Canal Street, leaving two men injured. According to authorities, one of the wounded men will face charges for instigating the altercation that resulted in the shooting.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, Quintel Morgan, 28, was inside a store located in the 100 block of Royal Street in the French Quarter when he was approached by five unknown individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 8:54 p.m. Morgan reported that he heard gunshots as he left the store and immediately fled the scene.
Huseyin Yilmac, the owner of Art Bazaar on Royal Street, shared his terrifying experience saying, “I was too afraid to run in any direction. Instead, I focused on protecting myself while the customers sought refuge on the second floor.”
According to authorities, Morgan was pursued by a group of five individuals along Iberville Street until he eventually fell to the ground due to a gunshot wound. This incident occurred on the outskirts of the French Quarter, which was packed with people celebrating Halloween weekend in colorful costumes. Another victim, aged 35, was discovered not long after the first. Both men sought medical attention at a hospital.
According to investigators, it is believed that Morgan was the one who started the shooting which resulted in the two men getting shot.
Authorities are currently in the process of identifying the other individuals involved in the situation.
After being discharged from the hospital, Morgan will face charges including four counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal discharge of a weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. She will then be booked into jail for these offenses.
