Investigation Underway After Man Fatally Shot In Southeast DC

Washington, DC – When a man was shot and murdered in Southeast D.C. on Wednesday afternoon, police launched a homicide investigation.

Just before 4 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a complaint of gunfire in the vicinity of Naylor Road Southeast, which is close to S Street Southeast. When they arrived, they discovered a man who was hurt.
The individual was reported to be conscious and breathing when he was first found, but the police department has confirmed that he has now been declared dead.

Police identified the deceased guy as Northeast, D.C. resident Tyejuan Harkum, 24, by Thursday afternoon.

A green car that is allegedly linked to the crime is being sought after, although police have not disclosed any information regarding a person of interest in the case.

According to DC Police figures, as of December 6, there had been 253 documented killings in the District, a 32% increase over the same period last year. D.C. announced on December 6, 2022, that there had been 192 killings that year.

Currently, the Metropolitan Police Department is willing to pay up to $1,000 in rewards to anyone with information leading to the identification and indictment of the individual or people accountable for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
