Inmate at Elmore Correctional Facility Dies Following Assault: ADOC

Mocobizscene- The Alabama Department of Corrections is currently conducting an investigation into a fatal incident at Elmore Correctional Facility. According to their report, an inmate-on-inmate assault took place, resulting in the loss of a life. The department is treating this case as a potential homicide.

Around 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, an incident occurred where inmates Derrek Wendell Martin and Antonio Twan Thomas, who were initially engaged in a verbal altercation, escalated the situation and engaged in a physical confrontation.

ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD) has identified Thomas as the prime suspect, and charges against him are currently pending.

Martin, a 38-year-old man, had been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime of Possession of a Controlled Substance in Lawrence County. Thomas, who is 50 years old, is currently serving a life sentence for committing Robbery I in Montgomery County.
