Mocobizscene- According to a report from Los Angeles County, Fentanyl has surpassed methamphetamine to become the deadliest street drug in the county, associated with the highest number of deaths.
According to the county report, Fentanyl was responsible for 59% of all overdose deaths involving drugs or alcohol in 2022.
The rise of the drug was swift and deadly. In just a few years, the number of accidental fentanyl overdose deaths soared by a staggering 1,652%, going from 109 in 2016 to a shocking 1,910 in 2022.
Men and adults aged 26-39 years face a higher rate of death, according to the report. In terms of racial and ethnic breakdowns of fentanyl deaths, the study reveals that although the white population had the highest number of total deaths, Black residents had the highest per capita rate. Shockingly, they experienced 49.5 deaths per 100,000 population.
