Suspect Arrested in Texas Cheerleader’s Death, 16, Found Dead in Bathtub by Mom

A Texas police officer has apprehended a suspect in the capital murder of 16-year-old cheerleader Lizbeth Medina, whose body was discovered in her residence on December 5.

Rafael Govea Romero was apprehended, according to a press release issued by the Edna Police Department on Sunday morning. The young man was apprehended on Saturday in the city of Schulenburg, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, according to the police. Romero, according to the police, is also undocumented.

Jacqueline Medina, the mother of Lizbeth, is convinced that her daughter was “cut dead in cold blood.”

An investigation into the case is being conducted as a capital murder investigation, which is reserved for crimes in Texas that involve particular aggravating circumstances, such as the commission of murder alongside another felony.

Jacqueline discovered her daughter’s body at home while searching for the adolescent, who had failed to appear with her cheer squad to perform at a Christmas parade.

The last time Lizbeth was seen was on December 5 at 7:30 a.m. Reportedly, she spoke with her mother via telephone shortly after Jacqueline departed for work at 6:00.

Later, when the Lizbeth failed to appear for a Christmas parade, Jacqueline became concerned and returned to their apartment in an attempt to locate her. She reported discovering the body of her daughter in the bathtub at that moment.

“In the most abhorrent manner a mother could discover her child.” “She was brutally murdered,” Jacqueline reported to 11 Alive.

Friends and acquaintances have gathered in Edna, a town of about 6,000 people located near Houston, to pay tribute to Lizbeth in the wake of her passing. It was a recent relocation for her and her mother from Nebraska.

“It would kill me if someone dared to enter and rip my daughter from me,” her mother told 11 Alive. “I just want answers to why they would do this to an amazing little girl who would never hurt anyone, wouldn’t dare to hurt anyone.”

On Saturday, the police issued photographs of a male individual whom they labeled a “person of interest.” It was not immediately apparent whether Romero belonged to that group.

At this time, Romero is being detained at the Jackson County Jail.

“Although Romero is apprehended, we recognize that Lizbeth’s family and friends are grieving and will still need support from the community,” according to the authorities. “The citizens of Edna can now sleep in peace!”
