Family Honors Father Killed In Marrero Shooting Incident In New Orleans Area

Mocobizscene- Three weeks ago, Jakari Edwards happily assisted his family in decorating their Christmas tree and hanging lights at their Marrero residence.

Imari Edwards, 22, revealed that her brother, Edwards, 20, was particularly thrilled to commemorate the occasion alongside his 4-month-old son, Jakari Jr. Imari Edwards expressed her feelings of despair as the Christmas spirit transformed into a deep abyss.

The family members are perplexed as to why someone would have had any motive to harm Jakari Edwards.

“He wasn’t involved in illegal activities on the streets. He wasn’t associated with drug dealing or causing fear in the community. He was a remarkable young man with a promising future ahead of him,” expressed Jeramika Edwards, 32, the eldest sister.

On December 13, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives apprehended Markeith Glapion, aged 26, and Terrell Glapion, aged 28. They were charged with second-degree murder in relation to the shooting incident. Authorities have not confirmed the relationship between the two suspects, and they have also not disclosed any information regarding the suspected motive behind the killing.

Imari Edwards expressed her strong belief that the undeserving treatment received by the individual in question was completely unfair. Jakari Edwards was the youngest among his four siblings and the only boy. According to his sisters, he relished the abundance of love and pampering that comes with being the baby of a tight-knit family.

Imari Edwards shared that Edwards had a childhood in Gretna, engaging in basketball and football for the neighborhood playground teams. Additionally, he was a member of the marching band, where he played the bass drum at both Gretna Middle School and West Jefferson High School.

Jakari Edwards had a deep love for video games. His sisters would often laugh as they reminisced about how he would completely take over their bedrooms by setting up his gaming system and playing at a volume that could not be ignored.

They couldn’t help but burst into laughter as they reminisced about their brother’s humorous antics, such as taking control of their mother’s motorized mobility chair. Imari Edwards fondly recalls how her brother would always seize the opportunity to hop into the chair and joyfully give the babies a little ride. Her sister’s laughter fills the air as she shares this heartwarming memory.

Jakari Edwards was known for his diligent work ethic and his dedication to taking care of his mother, Tynia Edwards, when she became ill. Despite his mother’s playful scolding, his sisters affirmed that Jakari was a hard-working young man. He had a job in the construction industry, specifically pouring concrete.

Jeramika Edwards shared that her four children had always looked up to their uncle, as he had been a prominent male figure in their family.

“He was instrumental in helping me raise my children,” she fondly recalled. “Jakari was always there, actively involved in their care. Whether it was accompanying us to doctor visits or simply popping by to assist with household chores like putting clothes in the dryer, he consistently went above and beyond.”

The sisters were confident that their little brother would make an exceptional father, and for the limited time he had, he truly lived up to their expectations. Imari Edwards shared that her high school sweetheart, Jakari Edwards, tragically passed away before she could let him know that they were expecting another baby together.

“He was just beginning his family,” she said.
