New Orleans—The family of 30-year-old Ernest Jarreau is in search of answers regarding his cause of death, which was injuries sustained in an automobile accident on December 1 with an Orleans Parish Sheriff Office deputy.
Katrina Jarreau reports that her son was involved in an accident with an OPSO deputy around 2:00 a.m. on Interstate 10, between Canal and Orleans. She reports that upon her arrival at the medical facility, she discovered her son in an unconscious state, afflicted with internal bleeding, a fractured cranium, and injuries to the spine. Ernest passed away as a result of his wounds.
The family asserts that law enforcement has not yet reached out to them in regards to the accident, despite their arrival at the hospital.
According to Jarreau, they filed a request for public records for the police report because it was never released; this is how they discovered the other motorist and discovered that Ernest was ejected from the vehicle.
OPSO confirmed that Raheem Kadeem, a reserve deputy, was a collision victim. Having been off assignment, he remained at the location.
The investigation is presently under the jurisdiction of the New Orleans Police Department. Concerned about what transpired the night of the accident, the family asserts that there is only one account, which is that of the deputy. The family donated Jarreau’s left kidney and heart to two additional individuals.
