Explosion of cellphone reported at high school in DC

Mocobizscene-  According to the city’s fire department, an individual sustained injuries at a D.C. high school on Thursday morning following an explosion caused by a cellphone.

The incident took place at Roosevelt High School in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood at around 8:30 a.m.

“We have encountered yet another incident of a lithium-ion battery failure. We strongly advise against charging your phones in bed or under the pillow,” cautioned DC Fire and EMS on X, previously known as Twitter.

An e-bike battery caught fire and caused significant damage to a store in New York City, as captured in a video. Investigators suspect that the explosion occurred due to a malfunction in the lithium-ion battery of the phone.

The department shared a warning on X, alerting users about the hidden risks associated with lithium batteries.

To prevent similar incidents from occurring, it is advised to take certain precautions. These precautions include using phone covers that allow heat to dissipate, avoiding direct sunlight exposure, using approved chargers, and refraining from storing phones in tight pockets, especially when running resource-intensive applications.
