According to reports, a man aged 56 was driving his luxury car on a bridge at the U.S.-Canada border on Wednesday when it suddenly exploded, resulting in the tragic deaths of both him and his wife.
Reports suggest that a couple, who remains unidentified, had planned to attend a KISS concert in Toronto on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the concert was canceled at the last minute due to a band member’s illness. However, the couple did not let this spoil their evening and decided to visit a New York casino instead. Later, they left for Niagara Falls in their luxurious two-door Bentley Excelsior.
During an appearance on CNN’s The Situation Room, law enforcement analyst John Miller reported that the driver of the vehicle, who lived on a luxurious island in New York, drove towards a checkpoint at a high speed and collided with a barrier on the Rainbow Bridge. The impact caused the car to explode.
According to Miller, the recent fiery crash does not exhibit any characteristics of terrorism. He went on to state that it appears to be a tragic accident rather than an intentional act.
During an evening press conference, New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the vehicle explosion was related to terrorism.
According to Hocul, the investigation is currently underway and there doesn’t seem to be any immediate danger to the surrounding area.
According to Andrew McCabe, the former Deputy Director of the FBI, the collision that resulted in injury to a U.S. Customs and Border officer working in a booth did not seem to be intentional. During his conversation with Blitzer, he stated that the crash details strongly suggest a horrific accident or an irresponsible act of driving.
McCabe explained that the Bentley, being an extremely heavy and powerful car, combined with the distance it traveled and the height it cleared to get over the fence, was a fortunate situation. He emphasized that had the circumstances been different, the loss of life could have been much greater.
Authorities have confirmed that no explosives were found at the crash site.
According to an anonymous law enforcement official who spoke to the New York Times, the driver is assumed to be a gambler who frequently crossed the border between the United States and Canada. Despite his gambling habit, the individual had no previous criminal record.
According to reports, he and his wife hold American citizenship.
