Officials have concluded their search for an escaped Philadelphia inmate following the discovery of Gino Hagenkotter’s body in a city warehouse on Monday. Hagenkotter, aged 34, was a Riverside Correctional Facility inmate at the time of his November 30 escape.His apprehension was a result of retail larceny.
Hagenkotter allegedly escaped the facility while performing a detail assignment in the orchard located behind the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility, according to officials
On Monday around 2:30 p.m., in response to reports of a male being found unresponsive in a warehouse located in the 1100 block of East Venango Street, authorities located Hagenkotter’s remains.
Hagenkotter was pronounced dead at the site by first responders.
Hagenkotter passed away due to a narcotic overdose, as reported by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health; the cause of death has been determined to be an accident.
The presence of a shattered air vent and a pushed-out fan in the warehouse, according to authorities, could indicate a forced entry. Police report that a ladder was also discovered nearby. Hagenkotter was found deceased without any form of identification on him at the time of discovery. He was identified by authorities via biometric analysis, they claim.
