Calls for Justice Grow Following Death of Police Sergeant in Maryland

Mocobizscene- The family of a beloved Maryland police sergeant, who tragically passed away during an unexpected medical episode last week, is receiving an outpouring of support.

Sgt. Eric R. Trumbauer, a member of the Anne Arundel Police Department, tragically passed away on Wednesday, January 24th after experiencing a medical emergency while off-duty. He was 49 years old. Sgt. Trumbauer began his law enforcement journey in October 2002 when he joined the 60th Recruit Class of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

As a police officer, he dedicated a decade to patrolling the Northern and Southern districts. His outstanding contributions were acknowledged by the Northern District Community Relations Committee and the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, who named him Officer of the Year.

After serving as a fatal crash investigator with the Special Operation Division Traffic Safety Section for five years, the dedicated sergeant returned to the patrol. Throughout his career, he garnered recognition from the state of Maryland a remarkable 14 times for his exceptional skills in enforcing DUI laws.

Trumbauer leaves behind his loving wife, Kelly, and cherished daughter, Brooke. His caring father, Robert C. Trumbauer, and beloved brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” McClanahan (along with his wife Jody), also survive him. In addition, he is remembered by his mother-in-law, Barbara Gibson, and nieces Mara and Cora. Furthermore, he will be dearly missed by numerous extended family members, colleagues, and close friends.

A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support the family of the dedicated Sergeant, who tragically lost his life. The campaign has raised almost $24,000, which will be utilized to cover funeral expenses and other ongoing financial needs.

Social media was flooded with an array of heartfelt tributes. The viewing for Sgt. Trumbauer is slated for Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Bailey Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A memorial service will follow on Thursday at Heritage Community Church in Severn.

District 4 Councilwoman Julie Hummer expressed her condolences to the family of Sergeant Eric Trumbauer and the Anne Arundel County Police Department. She stated, “My heart aches for the loss of this fine officer.”
