Arrest of Couple Made by Police Following Downtown Orlando Shooting Stemming from Kidnapping and Robbery

On Monday afternoon, downtown Orlando was witness to an attempted robbery that ended up in a shooting. As per reports, a man and a woman were arrested for their involvement in the incident.

Around 2 p.m. on Monday, the Rosemont area received reports of a shooting, prompting the intervention of Orlando police officers.

Upon reaching the junction of East Central Blvd. and North Rosalind Ave., the law enforcement officials discovered an individual with a bullet wound to their leg. The wounded person was immediately transported to the hospital where they received necessary medical attention and were stabilized.

Upon investigation, authorities obtained surveillance footage revealing a confrontation between two automobiles that occurred prior to the shooting.

Police utilized video surveillance to trace the potential suspect vehicle to a private dirt lot located beside a residence on West Jefferson Street, as per Crime Center detectives.

Upon securing the area, a male individual, later identified as Kevin Johnson, appeared from one of the apartments and claimed residency. After investigating, the officers found no probable cause to hold Johnson and he was permitted to leave.

Upon interviewing the victim at the hospital, law enforcement was informed that Dekayla Gray, a 26-year-old, was involved in the shooting. Additionally, Gray was identified as the registered owner of the vehicle used by the perpetrator.

According to the victim’s statement to the police, he had arranged to meet Gray at the Rosemont Community Center, with the intention of purchasing fake credit cards. As soon as he arrived, Gray left to “retrieve something” from her car. However, before she returned, two armed men appeared out of nowhere and forcibly pushed the victim into the back seat of his own car.

According to the victim, Gray took control of the driver’s seat while one of the suspects in the back seat kept pointing a gun at him.

The victim informed the police that he was searching for officers while they were on the move to notify them about the kidnapping. However, when they reached the intersection of East Central Blvd. and North Rosalind Ave., the victim made a quick decision to flee.

As per the victim’s account, he made a run for it from the back seat of the car, hoping to break free. However, his escape attempt resulted in a scuffle in the middle of the road. While fleeing, he heard gunshots being fired towards him and got hit in the leg.

A police officer in Apopka, Florida, recently helped deliver a baby at a residence. The officer responded to a 911 call about a woman in labor and arrived at the home just as the baby was being born. The officer quickly assisted in the delivery, ensuring the safe arrival of the newborn. Both the mother and baby were taken to the hospital for further care and are reported to be in good health. The Apopka Police Department praised the officer’s quick thinking and professionalism in handling the situation.

Fortunately, neither the driver nor the passengers on a nearby Lynx bus were harmed despite the vehicle being struck by gunfire.

Authorities detained and accused Johnson of committing first-degree attempted murder, armed kidnapping, carjacking with a firearm, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
