Mocobizscene- A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred in Long Beach, resulting in the death of a motorist. Currently, authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, the Long Beach Police Department responded to a call on Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street. When they arrived, officers discovered a man trapped inside a 2012 Ford Focus.
Rodger Lee Watkins, a 60-year-old resident of Long Beach, tragically lost his life at the scene, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
According to the police, the initial investigation suggests that a 2012 Lexus IS250 was heading north on Atlantic, nearing the intersection with Anaheim. At the same time, the Focus was traveling east on Anaheim, approaching the same intersection.
According to the police, the Ford lost control after being broadsided by the Lexus in the middle of the intersection. The collision caused the Ford to strike a traffic signal light and an abandoned building on the northeast corner of the intersection. Meanwhile, the Lexus also lost control and collided with a bus bench on the same corner of the intersection.
The driver of the Lexus, a 31-year-old resident of Long Beach, was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police. The individual’s identity has not yet been disclosed.
Police are investigating speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving as potential factors in this collision.
