Mocobizscene- A frantic search is currently in progress for Lisei Huang, a 22-year-old resident of El Monte, who disappeared while hiking alone in the Mt. Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
At 11:14 p.m. on Sunday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Fontana Sheriff’s Station received a distressing call about Huang’s disappearance, raising alarm. Huang had started her hike at around 2 p.m., but there has been no communication from her since approximately 4 p.m.
The Sheriff’s West Valley Search and Rescue Crew was deployed at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, in response to the urgent situation. Despite their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts, Huang could not be located.
On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the search efforts persisted despite challenging weather conditions. Unfortunately, heavy snowfall and increased avalanche risks forced the authorities to temporarily halt the operations. However, the search and rescue personnel will remain stationed at the trailhead, prepared to resume their mission as soon as the conditions become more favorable.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is issuing a strong warning to the public, urging them to avoid participating in mountain activities during the current inclement weather.
Hikers are facing dangerous conditions on the mountain as heavy snowfall has covered the area. The limited resources available have resulted in longer wait times for those who get lost and require help.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding the disappearance of Lisei Huang. Individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact the Fontana Sheriff’s Station at 909-356-6767.
