SCOTCH PLAINS — On Christmas morning, a collision on Route 22 claimed the life of a 16-year-old.
According to Scotch Plains police, the adolescent passed away just after six in the morning when the 2018 Nissan Rogue in which he was a passenger struck a utility pole in the westbound lanes close to Victor Street.
The teenager was rushed to University Hospital along with his 41-year-old father and 39-year-old mother from North Plainfield. Authorities told MyCentralJersey.com that the teenager was declared deceased at the scene.
On Wednesday morning, when New Jersey 101.5 requested further information, Scotch Plains police did not reply. According to State Police data, it was the third fatal crash on Route 22 in Union County in 2023.
