Mocobizscene- After two other teenagers and the 16-year-old girl went joyriding in a stolen car through the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles after midnight on Tuesday, February 20, the girl was murdered in a fiery car wreck. The front passenger, an 18-year-old female, and the driver, a 14-year-old girl, are said to have suffered injuries in the collision.
Police from the Los Angeles Police Department said that they had seen the car traveling along Ventura Boulevard in Encino prior to the collision. The Toyota Camry was allegedly driving without its headlights on, so the officers utilized the loudspeakers on their patrol car to order the driver to switch on the lights.
According to the police, the driver sped off rather than cooperating. At that moment, the cops made the decision not to pursue the car and continued with their night. Officers reported that shortly after, at the intersection of Ventura and Balboa Boulevards, the driver lost control of the car and slammed into a pole. Officers raced to assist as soon as the vehicle started fire.
The 18-year-old front passenger and the 14-year-old driver were successfully removed from the vehicle by the officers. According to reports, the passenger in the backseat passed away at the scene since police were unable to reach them at the time. Later on, authorities verified that the dead was a 16-year-old female.
Terrifying video from the scene shows the raging fire and the police’s futile attempts to smash the rear windows of the burning car in an attempt to save the third passenger.
Captain Jeff Hollis of the Los Angeles Police Department commented on the terrible event, saying, “The young kids do unwise things.” Everyone is aware of that. It is simply not worth jeopardizing your life in that way. This is a complete catastrophe. Some families will be negatively impacted by this.
Investigators also stated that the teenagers in the collision took the car without their consent, and the person who reported the vehicle stolen was related to one of the youths involved.
The front passenger, 18, and the driver, 14, were reportedly receiving medical attention and were expected to live at the time this story was published. It’s unknown if the teenage motorist who contributed to the deadly collision will be prosecuted or have any other legal repercussions. The inquiry is still on.
