Mocobizscene- Brandon Mitchell claims that he was pushed by NOPD Officer Alfred Russell during his high school marching band performance. The Mardi Gras parade incident involving the New Orleans Police Department officer accused of pushing a high school senior marching band member has also unveiled allegations of payroll fraud against the officer.
Alfred Russell, as reported by WDSU, has refuted the allegations of fraud, however, he has been relieved of his duties after the Muses parade. Mitchell encouraged others to follow suit, emphasizing the importance of preserving the things that matter to them. In his own words, he expressed, “I have personal commitments and aspirations that I am not willing to let go of.”
The video captured the aftermath of the push, revealing Mitchell, another student, and Russell engaged in a heated argument while the rest of the marching band and parade-goers looked on in disbelief. The Algiers Charter School district praised their students for their handling of the situation in a statement released later on.
Algiers Charter expresses its profound disappointment regarding the video capturing an incident involving an NOPD Officer pushing a student from L.B. Landry High School and a member of the Marching Pride of Algiers Band Unit.
Furthermore, the school administration expressed their appreciation for the students’ maturity and refusal to partake in any negative actions. They acknowledged the significance of the conflict resolution lessons that they had taught to their students, emphasizing the value of peaceful resolution.
The school announced that it will be closely monitoring the investigation into the actions of the NOPD officer.
The school leaders expressed their concerns and stated that they would take immediate action by meeting with the NOPD regarding this matter. They emphasized that the behavior displayed by the law enforcement officers was not in line with the standards expected from them, and it was not the kind of conduct that young students should encounter.
The leaders reiterated the importance of respect for authority and appropriate conduct, as these are core values that they strive to instill in their students. The school reassured us that the NOPD PIB has already started an investigation and they have assured us that they will follow the proper process.
The NOPD has confirmed to WDSU that they are currently conducting an active investigation into the incident. The department’s Public Integrity Bureau expressed their concern after reviewing the footage of the parade.
