Hockey player passes away following unexpected incident during game.

Adam Johnson, an ice hockey player, passed away due to a “freak accident” that occurred during a match between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers on Saturday night.

The Panthers expressed their deep sorrow and devastation upon learning about Johnson’s severe injury at Utilita Arena Sheffield. The club is heartbroken and sends their best wishes to Johnson and his family during this difficult time. During the match, a mid-game collision occurred, leading to a “major medical emergency” and the abandonment of the game.

An ice hockey blade caused a cut to the neck of Johnson, a 29-year-old American. As soon as Johnson collapsed on the field, paramedics quickly rushed to attend to him. Concerned players formed a circle around him while screens were set up to provide privacy and keep the situation under control.

On Sunday morning, Nottingham Panthers confirmed that he had passed away after being taken to Yorkshire hospital. According to the statement, the club will deeply feel his absence and will always remember him.

The news of Adam’s passing has left everyone at the club, including players, staff, management, and ownership, absolutely heartbroken. After his stint with the Malmo Redhawks in Sweden during the 2020-21 season, Johnson, who hails from Minnesota, previously played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League.

After his stints with the Ontario Reign in Canada and the Augsburger Panther in Germany, Johnson has now committed to joining Nottingham for the upcoming 2023-24 season. The Elite League fixtures scheduled for Sunday in Belfast, Fife, and Guildford have been postponed due to the untimely passing of Johnson.

According to a statement released by the Elite Ice Hockey League, Nottingham Panthers forward Adam Johnson tragically passed away due to a freak accident during the game against Sheffield Steelers on Saturday. The league expressed their sorrow at the loss of Johnson. Following the distressing news, the Elite League has decided to postpone all games that were slated to occur on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

“Our hearts go out to Adam’s family, friends, and teammates during this incredibly sad and difficult time. The entire EIHL community shares in their loss and offers our deepest condolences.”
