Deebo Samuel defends Brock Purdy against intense criticism despite leading the league in numerous categories

The San Francisco 49ers staged an impressive comeback on Saturday night, securing a remarkable 24-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs at Levi’s Stadium.

During the Divisional Round win over the Packers, 49ers QB Brock Purdy faced some criticism from Ryan Clark, an ESPN analyst and former NFL DB. Clark pointed out that Purdy seemed to struggle at times, especially when compared to other talented QBs like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen.

Earlier, Clark shared a post on social media,

“Yo!! Watching this game with Allen & Mahomes, after Baltimore and Lamar [Jackson] yesterday, makes me think, ‘How does Brock Purdy beat any of these dudes?’”

Purdy seems to have received some criticism from Ryan Clark as his performance this season has caused him to drop out of the NFL MVP race. Meanwhile, quarterbacks like Jared Goff, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson, who were selected between the first and last picks in their draft class, have managed to secure spots in the conference title games. Unfortunately, Purdy was the last pick in the draft, earning him the title of “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk took to Instagram to defend the 49ers QB from the criticism. Samuel shared his thoughts on the matter through his IG story.

“Never seen so much hate for a QB that lead the league in almost every category y’all folks be bugging, That [tape] don’t tell no lies.”

Purdy had a standout performance, completing 23 out of 39 passes for 252 yards. Not only that, but he also showed his worth as an MVP candidate throughout this season. In total, he completed an impressive 69.4 percent of his passes for 4,280 yards, with 31 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. On top of that, he even managed to score two times on the ground.
