Two people were killed in a crash involving a street sweeper on I-459 near US 280

Authorities claimed two individuals were murdered and several were trapped after a crash involving two automobiles and a street sweeper on I-459 near U.S. 280 in Jefferson County on Tuesday night.

According to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett, the crash happened around 8:02 p.m. on I-459 South near the 18-mile marker.

According to the Rocky Ridge Fire Department, units were working on a multi-vehicle crash that “required multiple extractions as well as fatalities.”

Burkett stated on Tuesday night that the southbound lanes would be stopped “for an undetermined amount of time.” Troopers reported that all lanes were open shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The crash was being investigated by state troopers.

There was no additional information supplied.
