During a police chase that lasted throughout the night, gunshots were fired. The chase began in Vestavia Hills and ultimately ended in Birmingham.
According to Capt. Shane Ware of the Vestavia Hills Police Department, the events in question occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on Friday when law enforcement officials initiated a pursuit of a vehicle on I-65. The chase ultimately led to northern Birmingham, where two individuals – one male and one female – were apprehended by police.
The authorities are currently searching for a third suspect, who is believed to be a male and fled the scene on foot.
According to Ware, the gunfire occurred while they were chasing the suspect on foot.
Fortunately, there were no injuries sustained by any officers during the incident. However, it is worth noting that the third suspect involved in the situation is still at large and has yet to be located.
The search for the suspect continued for approximately three and a half hours, starting at 1 a.m. and ending at 4:30 a.m.
The search operation had multiple law enforcement officers present, including Birmingham police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies. In addition to the manpower, drones and the county’s Star 1 helicopter were also utilized during the search.
According to Ware, he is unable to provide any further information at this time.
The investigation is being led by the State Bureau of Investigation, which is a part of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
