A Donaldson Correctional Facility inmate died while being treated in a hospital

On Tuesday, a prisoner named Mark Len Johnson passed away at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama.

Johnson was 54 years old and had been receiving medical treatment for a natural illness since June 12th at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Unfortunately, he could not recover from his illness and was declared dead at 9:56 pm on Tuesday. Johnson had been serving a life sentence for a murder conviction in Sumter County in 1993.

The Alabama Department of Corrections, Law Enforcement Services Division, is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Johnson’s death.

The cause of his death will be determined after a postmortem examination is conducted on Wednesday.
