New TikTok challenge to blame for 4 Alabama deaths “They literally broke their neck”

SHELBY, AL — A social media challenge killed four Central Alabama people.

This dangerous TikTok trend is termed “#boatjumping.” People are jumping off of moving boats at lakes like those in Shelby County.

Rescue crews are expressing concern about individuals engaging in a TikTok challenge on the water this summer, as it has resulted in four tragic fatalities within the past six months.

Capt. Jim Dennis with the Childersburg Rescue Squad said these deaths are people of all ages.

Dennis said “The four that we responded to when they jumped out of the boat, they literally broke their neck and, you know, basically an instant death,”

Rescue crews will be out patrolling the lakes across central Alabama. They encourage people not to drink and drive or jump for any reason.
