Police say an Alabama man drowned his dog because it had fleas

On Monday, a guy from Theodore was arrested on Dauphin Island on charges that he put his dog to death in the Gulf.

Police say that the scary thing started when the dog’s owner took it to the water because the dog had fleas.

Shawn Taulbee, who is 54 years old, is accused of hurting a dog.

He said that he tied a homemade rope around his dog’s neck and dragged it to the East End beach, where he pulled it in and out of the water until it died.

Investigators said that it happened near the bird sanctuary. Two people saw it happen, talked to Taulbee about it, and then called the cops. Soon after, police took him to jail.

The police are now looking into whether or not there will be more charges.

Jail records show that Taulbee was freed from Metro on a $3,000 bail on Monday.
