Brooklyn woman, 22, died in Staten Island tragedy was ‘the most lively person’

Gabriella Shammas, who was just 22 years old, had an innate ability to effortlessly win people over with her charm and wit. Her good friend, Sam Picardi, reminisced that she was always the life of the party, making everyone laugh with her clever jokes and infectious personality.

Picardi, who is a Brooklyn native himself, shared that Shammas, a resident of Dyker Heights, was a beacon of comfort and companionship for numerous individuals. With aspirations to pursue a master’s degree in psychology, Shammas was highly skilled at offering support to others.

According to Picardi, the woman was known for her warm and welcoming nature, making everyone feel at home whenever they were around her. Her genuine desire to assist others was evident in the way she interacted with people.

While riding with her friend Jianna-Lucia Pischetola, a 22-year-old from Midland Beach, the Brooklyn resident was involved in a fatal car accident. The car hit a guardrail, swerved across several lanes of traffic, and ignited in flames. Sadly, both women were declared deceased at the scene.

Picardi shared that Shammas’ passing has left her family and longtime boyfriend in a profound state of sorrow.

According to Picardi, the woman was deeply content with her relationship with the man.

According to the initial investigation carried out by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Squad, the distressing incident occurred on Sunday around 11 p.m. The police received a 911 call reporting a vehicle collision on the Brooklyn-bound Staten Island Expressway near Hanover Avenue.

According to the NYPD, Pischetola was behind the wheel of a Corvette convertible, heading east on the expressway. Unfortunately, she lost control of the car and collided with a divider that separated the main roadway from an exit lane for Hylan Boulevard.

According to initial police investigation, the Corvette flipped over onto the main road and collided with the passenger side of the pickup truck. Both vehicles were heading towards Brooklyn on the expressway’s middle lane.

As of Wednesday afternoon, a GoFundMe page was set up to assist with the funeral and other end-of-life expenses of Shammas. Initially, the goal was to raise $50,000, but the page has already surpassed that amount and has received over $87,700 in donations.

Picardi mentioned that the outpouring of support was a testament to the strong relationships that Shammas had built and the positive influence she had on those around her.

According to Picardi, everyone who crossed paths with her became her closest friend. He added that she was an amazing individual who left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
