ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two men have been charged by Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies after a wild car chase that went on and off-road and reached 90 miles per hour.
The Sheriff’s Office said that the chase began on Thursday when officers tried to pull over a 2013 Dodge Avenger on Batavia Oakfield Townline Road and Route 63 for not having its headlights on. The car drove away and went off the road several times, including through a field of crops, which caused a lot of damage.
The deputies used spike strips to take out the tires, but the car kept going at high speeds on just the rims. The driver finally lost control of the car near State Route 33 and Apple Tree Ave, hit a street sign, and then crashed into a hillside.
The driver ran away, but an hour later, he was found behind an Apple Tree Ave. store. His name is Sylvan Grayson, and he is 24 years old and from LeRoy. The Sheriff’s Office found a handgun in the car that was loaded but didn’t have a license number, make, or model.
Grayson was charged with criminal possession of a weapon (2nd and 3rd), criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a “ghost gun,” illegally fleeing a police officer in a car and obstructing a government operation. He also got 16 tickets for speeding.
Luke Rose, 19, a front-seat passenger from Batavia, was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, and possession of a “ghost gun.”
A child passenger in the backseat was also apprehended.
