Woman Sentenced for Drunken Hit-and-Run Killing NYPD Officer Hours After Blasting Police in Podcast

Hours after criticizing police on a podcast, a New York woman killed a police officer in a horrific hit-and-run while driving under the influence. She was given a sentence of more than 20 years in jail for this crime.

Jessica Beauvais, who was found guilty of colliding with NYPD officer Anastasios Tsakos in 2021, was sentenced by a large panel of judges. Around two in the morning in 2021, Tsakos was directing traffic at the scene of an accident on a New York highway when Beauvais struck him. Officers pursued her when she left the site.

Beauvais, 34, had livestreamed a podcast concerning George Floyd’s murder a few hours prior. She looked as though she was sipping shots of booze and washing them down with juice. She cursed at the police as she put the podcast to bed.

Authorities were informed by Beauvais that she used marijuana before getting behind the vehicle. Once she was placed under arrest, she sobbed and apologized. Beauvais apologized, “I’m sorry that I hit him and that he’s dead.”

Beauvais’ driver’s license was suspended at the time of the collision, according to police, because he had neglected to pay a fine associated with a prior speeding conviction. Beauvaisto was given concurrent terms of 20 years in jail for gross manslaughter and 2 1/3 to 7 years for fleeing the scene of an accident by Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise on Wednesday.

Additionally, Beauvais expressed regret after her sentencing.

Tsakos, 43, was survived by his wife and two kids. His widow described to the judge how she learned of her husband’s passing. “I suddenly fell backward in agony. I asked God to keep him alive as I drove to the hospital. I required him. Without him, I couldn’t imagine my existence,” the woman remarked.
