A New Orleans mother is expressing her concerns about the leniency of judges in the juvenile justice system as her oldest daughter has been involved in it for years. The mother expressed her concern, saying, “This is my daughter, but I no longer recognize her.”
The mother, who is single-handedly raising six children while her husband serves a 30-year murder sentence, expresses her dissatisfaction with Orleans Juvenile Court’s leniency. According to her, her daughter has previously assaulted four police officers and has repeatedly tested positive for drug use during court hearings.
According to her, Juvenile Court Judge Candace Anderson has consistently chosen to place her daughter under home incarceration, even though she has managed to remove two electronic monitors in the last two years. Legal analyst Joe Raspanti acknowledges that there are limited options for appeal, even though the mother is urging for a more stringent sentence.
According to Raspanti, the issue of determining the best approach for children is quite significant. The ultimate goal is to prioritize the least restrictive measures. However, in certain cases, a more restrictive approach may be necessary.
Judge Anderson explained that due to the regulations set by the Supreme Court, she is unable to provide any comments regarding ongoing cases involving juveniles. According to Raspanti, “I don’t believe that mama has many options for appeal, aside from pleading for a more lenient sentence for her daughter.”
Unfortunately, that has yet to occur.

John Honore has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the tragic death of Linda Frickey. The Orleans District Attorney’s office is facing allegations of allowing almost 1,300 felony defendants to remain fugitives without forfeiting their bonds.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) reported that a shooting in the Seventh Ward resulted in one fatality and four individuals being injured. Additionally, authorities have made an arrest in connection with the incident. A man was shot by his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend during a custody exchange in River Ridge, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO).
“I regret calling the police. I wish she hadn’t been involved with them and wasn’t in their records,” expressed the mother.
The mother is concerned, but she has taken the initiative to set up an LLC for her daughter. She hopes that this will allow her daughter to leverage her cosmetology skills and find a way forward.
According to the mother, she believes that her daughter has a multitude of talents. She excels in various areas such as writing, cooking, rapping, and has a deep passion for reading novels.
The court has recently made the decision to place the 17-year-old girl under the care of a relative. It seems that she is now attending school, which is a positive development. However, her mother still has concerns that without adequate consequences, her daughter’s criminal behavior may persist into adulthood.
The mother expressed concern, saying, “She needs to find a place to sit down. Otherwise, she’s going to experience her first case at OPP at 18.” Raspanti urges the legislature to remove the cloak of secrecy surrounding juvenile court proceedings so that experts can thoroughly analyze and propose reforms for the system.
