Virginia Beach arrests 5-year-old child who shoots himself

Police report that a 5-year-old child is in recovery in Virginia Beach after shooting himself.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Friday, it occurred at a residence in the 5600 block of Larry Avenue. The youth allegedly shot himself in the hip and was transported to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, according to investigators. The police have not provided any new information regarding the boy’s condition.

Police suspect that Richard Bauserman, 72, committed self-inflicted wounds during the gunshot, and he has been charged with felony child neglect. Additionally, Child Protective Services is developing a family safety plan.
