Mocobizscene-D.C. prosecutors and law enforcement officials have recently handed down sentences that amount to over 30 years for two men from the District. These individuals were involved in the tragic murder of 29-year-old Kerry Odoms in April 2021.
D.C. prosecutors and officers have handed down sentences of over 30 years to two men from the District for their involvement in the murder of 29-year-old Kerry Odoms in April 2021.
Malachi McFarland, a 24-year-old resident of D.C., and Andre Smith, aged 27 and also residing in D.C., have been sentenced to 14 and 18 years in prison, respectively. The charges they faced were second-degree murder while armed, to which they both pleaded guilty on October 30, 2023.
According to the D.C. police, McFarland had been charged with first-degree murder.
Just before 10 p.m. on April 15, 2021, Odoms, McFarland, and several others were present in the Congress Heights neighborhood’s 3300 block of 10th Place SE when the incident occurred. Prosecutors presented evidence that Smith approached the group, attacked Odoms, and fired multiple shots. The department did not disclose any additional charges related to the shooting death of Odom in their statement.
