Mocobizscene- New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is facing another investigation following allegations that she engaged in an affair with a police officer during a trip to Dubai, with the expenses being covered by taxpayers.
The FBI is currently investigating Cantrell, as reported by the NY Post and FOX 8. It is alleged that Cantrell had a close relationship with New Orleans Police Department Officer Jeffrey Vappie, both on and off duty, at a private apartment known as the Upper Pontalba. These circumstances eventually led to the end of Cantrell’s marriage. There have been claims that before he was dismissed as her official security guard, she had brought him along to a climate action gathering in Dubai last year.
According to reports, her mayoral group covered the $24,000 bill she accumulated during the trip. However, taxpayers contributed up to $14,000 to cover Vappie’s flight, accommodations, and other expenses. According to court documents, Vappie has admitted to having an affair with the mayor since news of the scandal broke.
The mayor has vehemently denied all allegations made against him.
