Mocobizscene- The challenging weather conditions hampered the extensive search effort for the 22-year-old resident of El Monte, who had been missing since February 4.
On February 10, 2024, a concerned citizen flying a drone alerted the U.S. Forestry Department about a possible sighting of Huang in the mountainous terrain. Promptly responding to the notification, deputies and search and rescue teams were dispatched to the upper San Antonio Creek Falls area. Unfortunately, the search efforts were impeded by inclement weather conditions and strong winds, making it impossible to conduct both ground and aerial searches.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in the search efforts, including personnel, volunteers, and the citizens who played a crucial role. Despite the tragic outcome, the dedicated efforts of the community and law enforcement showed their commitment to finding the missing hiker.
Huang embarked on her solo hike around 2 p.m. on February 4th, but her disappearance was not reported until 11:14 p.m. that same day. The search and rescue operations initially faced difficulties due to challenging conditions. Despite their efforts, the heavy snowfall and the risks of avalanches on February 6th further hindered their progress.
