Mocobizscene- Two individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody in Marion County on charges related to the murder of two individuals in Indianapolis. These cases had remained unsolved for a significant period of time.
Officials from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department emphasized on Thursday that while the two cases are not linked, they serve as a testament to the unwavering dedication of investigators in their pursuit to solve crimes, regardless of the number of years that may have elapsed.
Surveillance cameras reportedly captured the shooting incident, although no arrests have been made. In 2019, the mother of the victim expressed her concerns about the unresolved murder case.
Jacqueline Buckhalter expressed her determination to keep pursuing the case in 2019, stating, “I have to stay on it because I want this person or persons off the street.”
According to court records, the detective initially assigned to the case retired in 2021, leading to the transfer of the investigation to IMPD’s unsolved homicide unit. With the assistance of witnesses, the police were able to identify Genesis Penn as the perpetrator.
Murder charges were filed in 2022, and these charges remained sealed until recently when the suspect was booked into the Marion County Jail.
Witnesses informed the police that Penn was a well-known drug dealer in the locality. The reason behind shooting the victim was Penn’s belief that Buckhalter had stolen marijuana from him.
IMPD Lt. Shane Foley reassured the families of the victims that the investigations into these cases are still ongoing.
Charges were also filed this week in another murder case along Sebring Court on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
Terri Young-Moses, a 29-year-old individual, stands accused of the murder of Dezmond King, a 24-year-old. IMPD received a call on November 26, 2021, regarding an incident at Sebring Court where King was found deceased on the scene.
Young-Moses is facing multiple charges, including murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and criminal recklessness. On January 31, the court served Young-Moses with an arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in this case. At the time, he was already in custody for an unrelated offense in a separate case.
The motive was not provided in the court records for that case. However, last year, DNA and ballistics evidence recovered from the murder weapon allegedly linked the suspect to the killing. According to Foley, law enforcement will not hesitate to press charges if there is sufficient evidence, regardless of how much time has passed.
Both suspects are currently detained without the option of posting bail as they await their respective trials.
