Mocobizscene- According to authorities, the police have identified the individual who stole a roadside assistance truck from Beltsville, Maryland, and led officers on a chase through the suburbs of Washington, D.C. on Friday evening.
Flavio Cesar Lanuza, a 27-year-old resident of Laurel, Maryland, has been identified as the suspect, according to a release from the Maryland State Police on Saturday. Lanuza is now facing several charges, including vehicle theft and first-degree assault.
At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Friday, a State Highway Administration tow truck driver came to the aid of someone at a park-and-ride off Interstate 95 in Beltsville. However, the suspect seized the opportunity and fled in the stolen truck. It remains unclear whether the tow truck was summoned to the location or if the suspect hailed it down.
The truck entered the Beltway and collided with at least three vehicles. Maryland State Police swiftly located the truck, prompting a pursuit by several police cruisers.
Chopper4 captured aerial footage of the pursuit, showing police attempting to corral the stolen truck in a vacant parking lot at one point.
While driving, Lanuza veered off the road and passed through a grassy area. Unfortunately, the equipment on the back of the truck got entangled with some utility lines. Despite this setback, the truck got back on the road, only to collide with multiple cars and even drive into oncoming traffic.
In a heart-stopping turn of events, a roadside assistance truck from the Maryland State Highway Administration was stolen at a park-and-ride, leading police on a pursuit.
