During the holiday season, people tend to receive a higher volume of letters and packages, making it all the more important to remain vigilant against mail thieves who may take advantage of the situation.
“I’m anxiously awaiting a letter from the VA regarding my disabled benefits as I am a disabled veteran. Without receiving this letter, I’m uncertain about the next steps the VA expects me to take,” shared Christopher Howry, a concerned resident.
Residents at 133 Promenade Walk in Long Beach, including Howry, have expressed increasing worries about the theft of their mail. The management has alerted them multiple times about the presence of serial mail thieves in the area.
Howry expressed concern over the potential theft of mail, particularly during the holiday season when items like Christmas cards and gifts are commonly sent.
Around 5:30 a.m. on December 5th, the building’s security camera captured two men breaking into the Promenade Walk apartment building. The footage shows them leaving the premises with a large bag containing stolen mail.
According to Tammara Mencias, the property manager at 133 Promenade Walk, the person responsible for overseeing the watches and handling packages and mail with a key is the main orchestrator of the operation.
According to Mencias, the same thief has been caught on camera stealing mail on three separate occasions.
According to her, the initial occurrence took place in August. Following that, the mail was subsequently stolen in September, October, and most recently on December 5th.
According to Mencias, he has taken prescriptions, checks, credit cards, and possibly mail from his family.
According to Mencias, each incident follows a similar pattern. In the video, it is evident that the individual approaches the mailboxes, retrieves the mail, and proceeds to store it inside a trash bag.
Rosalba Salas, a housekeeper at 133 Promenade Walk, recalls her frustration one morning when she couldn’t find her trash bag. “Every time I come in the morning to clean the office, I would ask myself, ‘Where’s my trash bag?'” she said.
Mencias has filed multiple police reports with the Long Beach Police Department, and she stated that officers are currently investigating the incident. We have reached out to the Long Beach Police Department for further information, but as of now, we have not received a response.
Mencias expressed her frustration with the situation, stating that it is not only causing financial strain for the HOA but also creating inconvenience for its members. She emphasized that they now have to be extra vigilant and cautious due to the actions of this individual, which she deems unnecessary.
