Stanton man guilty of shooting friend’s violent boyfriend to death

Mocobizscene- Joel Brandon Martinez, 42, was found guilty on Thursday of killing Carlos Beltran Aguilar, 35, the violent lover of one of his friends, at a Stanton motel.

The murder happened at the Villa Motel in Stanton, which is situated at 11672 Beach Blvd., in the afternoon on August 26, 2019. Both co-defendants, Gilbert Timothy Ramirez and Brandon Garet Iseminger, agreed to plea agreements.

While Iseminger is currently awaiting punishment, Ramirez was sentenced to 10 years and 4 months in jail in March of last year. Another co-defendant, Amy Lynn Black, is presently awaiting trial on felony counts of murder and possessing a controlled narcotic with the intention of selling it. Martinez’s medications are allegedly sold by her.

Martinez was found guilty on felonies including second-degree murder, conspiracy to conduct a crime, and felon in possession of a firearm. The jury also increased the sentence for shooting someone to death.

Martinez was found guilty of shooting Aguilar to death. On April 19, he is scheduled to be sentenced.

Black texted two friends several times in the days before the shooting, expressing her displeasure with Aguilar, whom she felt was unfaithful to her. According to Senior Deputy District Attorney Alexa Elliott, she also sent messages to Martinez and Aguilar indicating that she wanted the victim killed.
