Mocobizscene- According to the Long Beach Police Department, a car collided with a bicyclist on Sunday night, leaving the cyclist in stable but critical condition. At 8:15 p.m., the accident took place at the intersection of Second Street and Bay Shore Avenue, as reported by the LBPD. Both the driver and the cyclist entered the intersection on a red light.
According to LBPD spokesperson Richard Mejia, the driver was going straight while the bicyclist, a 32-year-old woman, was making a left turn just before the collision.
According to LBFD spokesperson Brian Fisk, a doctor who happened to be nearby the crash provided assistance to the bicyclist until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the individual to a local hospital. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police, according to the department. They also mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) stated that speed is not considered a factor in this accident; however, they acknowledged that residents have expressed concerns about excessive speeding in the area. In response to these concerns, LBPD has taken measures to discourage speeding by increasing patrols and installing “speed trailers” equipped with radar on Second Street at Bay Shore Avenue and Livingston Drive.
A bicyclist is currently in critical condition following a crash in Belmont Shore, according to the Long Beach Post.
