The NYPD is currently on the lookout for three women involved in two separate incidents of armed robbery targeting cab drivers in Midtown and the Bronx.
The police have released images of the women in the hope that someone will recognize them. They are wanted for robbing taxi drivers at gunpoint in two separate incidents that occurred during the overnight hours.
The incident occurred at Grand Central, where three women initiated the attack. Around 1 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, they approached a 60-year-old man who was driving a cab. Armed with a gun, the women demanded the driver’s cell phone. Subsequently, they fled the scene and were last spotted entering the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station, as reported by the police.
Around 3 a.m., two hours later, the trio hailed a cab and headed to the Fordham Heights area of the Bronx. Once they reached Ryer Avenue and 180th Street, the women brandished a gun once more and demanded the driver’s phone and wallet, which contained approximately $200 in cash. After obtaining their loot, they swiftly fled the scene.
Some taxi drivers mentioned that they opt not to work overnight due to safety concerns.
“I work during the day shift and do not work during the night,” one driver stated.
Aziz, a seasoned taxi driver in New York City for over a decade, consistently prioritizes his safety while on the road, even though he has never experienced a robbery.
Another cab driver stressed the importance of being cautious and prioritizing one’s safety. “You need to be aware and make sure you return home safely to your family. You can’t put your life at risk for a small sum of money. It simply doesn’t work that way.”
Fortunately, the taxi drivers involved in both incidents were unharmed, according to the police.
